Javi "GDjazz" Pereiro

Trumpet



 

Was born in 1982 in Cangas de Morrazo, Galiza (Spain), in a sailors family. He began to study classical music at the age of 6, and took the trumpet when he was 9.

He got the Professional Musician Especialized in Trumpet Diploma at the Pontevedra's Conservatory, after studying with some of the best classical trumpet teachers and soloists of the world, like Maurice André, Eric Aubier, Javier Viceiro, Benjamín Moreno, Luis Amosa, Fran Mora, Jose Ortí, Esteban Batallán, Dominique Brunet or Sergio Pacheco.

He started to study jazz with Abe Rábade and Paco Charlín, who will become his mentors and friends, and who tought him the fundamentals of this music at the Seminario Permanente de Jazz de Pontevedra.

Some years later he got the Music Bachelor Degree specialized in Jazz Trumpet at the ESMAE (Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo (Porto's University, Portugal)) with the great masters João Moreira and Nuno Ferreira, among others. With the school's combo wins the 1st Prize for the Best Combo of Portuguese schools' contest in the Lisbon Jazz Festival “Festa do Jazz do São Luiz 2011”, where he also got an Honor Mention as Soloist.

Today, he is working as part of Fernando Sánchez Quintet, TonRisco Quintet, Chus Pazos Trio, Marcos Pin Tentet and the great Portuguese big band Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos.

He also leads his own groups like the GDJAZZ 4TET, which won the 2nd Prize at the Getxo International Jazz Contest 2010, and which is introducing his debut album “Black May”, recorded in 2009 with Free Code Jazz Records featuring Mike Moreno, Josh Ginsburg and E.J. Strickland.
