Paulo Perfeito, trombonist, composer and pedagogue, was born in Oporto in 1974. He started his musical studies with Banda Marcial da Foz do Douro, having proceeded in Convservatório de Música do Porto and later at Escola de Jazz do Porto.
After attending the Summer Jazz Workshop of Jamey Aebersold in 1996, he was encouraged to continue his studies in Jazz at the Berklee College of Music, where he obtained, in 2001, the gray of Master of Music at New England Conservatory and concluded in 2013 the Doctorate in Musical Arts in the prestigious Eastman School of Music.
Among the numerous awards he has received, stands out the DownBeat Student Music Award in 2013. Marian McPartland Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship, Herb Pomeroy Award for Outstanding Jazz Composer and Arranger, and the Young Creators Scholarship from the National Center for Culture. He regularly collaborates with various institutions, including Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos, the Casa da Música, the European Movement Jazz Orchestra, ESMAE, the University of Aveiro, the Academia de Música de Espinho, o Conservatório da Jobra and the Escola de Arte of Sines. He leads the Nu Jazz Orchestra, the 6tet Paulo Perfeito, the Upstate Connection Unit, and he is a member of the Ensemble Super Moderne, Funky Bones Factory, and the band of the singer-songwriter Miguel Araújo.
